Climb the World-Famous Landmark of Sigiriya Lion Rock

Sigiriya’s Lion Rock is one of Sri Lanka’s most prominent tourist attractions. A massive (200m) square-shaped rock, which was formerly King Kashyapa’s castle, is a natural phenomenon. Murals, gardens, and a swimming pool, and a castle are all located on top of the rock. Lion Rock is a must-see in Sri Lanka since it is one of the eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

To Lion Rock’s summit

Prepare to take on a little challenge by climbing the 1200+ stairs to the top of Lion Rock. Don’t be alarmed; this is a must-see in Sri Lanka! The ascent is well-marked by excellent walkways and stairwells. The start at the terrace gardens provides the best view of the cliff.

Taking a break at Sigiriya Frescoes (ancient wall art), a mirror wall, and the claws cut out of the rock just before the last ascent.

Enjoy the wonderful 360-degree perspective of the entire area once you’ve reached the summit of the rock. Every nook and cranny offers a distinct perspective. Try to recognize some of the places in Sri Lanka that you have recently visited.

In Sigiriya, when is the best time to climb Lion Rock?

To escape the heat and crowds, it is best to climb Lion Rock before 7 a.m. It will take around 45 minutes to reach the summit. It will take 2–3 hours to explore the entire area surrounding and on top of the rock. Wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water.

Is Lion Rock a challenging hike?

The ascent to the peak is challenging, but a nice and safe stair leads to the top.

Monkeys and Bees

Monkeys and Bees are two of the most common animals found in the United States. Monkeys will occasionally approach you and try to take anything from your bag. As a result, double-check that everything is secure in your luggage; otherwise, nothing will happen.

If you fly a drone, for example, there are indications that bees can become violent. Drones are not permitted to be flown because of this.

Alternative to Lion Rock is Pidurangala Rock

Climb up Pidurangala Rock for a fresh perspective of Lion Rock and to save money. Instead of $30 for the large Lion Rock, the admission fee is only $5. If you have the time, climb both rocks since they are quite magnificent.
