Pidurangala Rock – Sigiriya’s Most Amazing Viewpoint
The Most Incredible Viewpoint in Sigiriya Is Pidurangala Rock. Pidurangala Rock, located beside the world-famous Sigiriya Lion Rock, offers an amazing 360-degree panorama. Both of these rocks may be hiked to the summit, however trekking to the top of Pidurangala Rock before dawn is a true adventure. Most importantly, you get a spectacular perspective of Lion’s Rock itself, which is truly unique! A visit to Sigiriya is a necessity on every Sri Lanka itinerary since this is a moment that will stand out on any trip to the country.
Pidurangala Rock, from the top
Enjoy the dawn from the summit of Pidurangala Rock, where the first rays of light touch the surrounding countryside, and the morning mist clears from the forests. It’s a lovely place and a magical time in Sri Lanka that should not be missed.
Visitors may wander around and admire the panorama on the enormous boulder, which is the highest point. Explore panoramic views of the valley as well as a unique viewpoint of Lion’s Rock.
Which is more impressive: Pidurangala or Sigiriya?
But, if I have to choose between two rocks, which should I climb? Because it used to be King Kassapa’s palace, Sigiriya Lion Rock has a fascinating history. Because of its outstanding paintings, gardens, and ruins, it was designated as a UNESCO world historic site for its beauty and history. On top of the rock, there’s even a pool.
The disadvantage is that the rock formation itself is the most remarkable element, but you can’t see how gorgeous it is since you’re standing on top of it.
Pidurangala Rock is a popular tourist destination in Sri Lanka.
Pidurangala Rock is a good substitute. The way up has a steep inclination and is a little more difficult to climb, hence this rock is less popular. Visitors will have to climb over rocks in certain areas, therefore it is not advised for individuals with limited mobility. This, however, adds to the challenge, and the view directly over Sigiriya Lion Rock is well worth it.
Both craters are worth seeing, but Pidurangala wins hands down for adventure and scenery.
Do you want to see both places? At sunrise, climb Pidurangala, then at nightfall, climb Sigiriya Lion Rock.
