Unawatuna, Sri Lanka’s Must-Do Activities

Unawatuna is one of Sri Lanka’s most visited locations. Tourists choose to spend their vacations in Sri Lanka’s southern region, which offers some of the country’s most stunning beaches. Unawatuna is a great place to visit for a few days because it’s only an hour’s drive from Colombo, the capital. The town itself is modest, yet it offers superb shopping, guesthouses, fashionable restaurants, and a variety of activities and sightseeing opportunities nearby. Find out what to do in Unawatuna and how to get there.

Unawatuna Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world

Both tourists and residents frequent Unawatuna’s principal beach. The long, sandy beaches are ideal for swimming, and a section of the beach is dedicated to the rental of loungers. A little walk to a pagoda monument overlooking the water may be found on the beach’s west end.

The beach is connected to the city center by a series of small eateries and cafes. Even after the sun sets, there’s a terrific beach atmosphere here.

Beach Jungle Unawatuna

The opposite side of the main beach is Jungle Beach. It’s tucked away from the main beach, so it’s a lot calmer.

It’s not as simple to get there as Unawatuna Beach, but if you have the time, it’s well worth a visit. The hub of Unawatuna town is around a 10–15-minute drive away.

Galle Fort is a must-see

In Sri Lanka, Galle Fort is a one-of-a-kind attraction. The architecture of this magnificent historic fort is influenced by the Dutch, Portuguese, and British, and does not reflect traditional Sri Lankan design. Galle Fort is home to a plethora of fantastic souvenir shops as well as some very stunning buildings. We enjoy spending an afternoon wandering around here and watching the sunset from the fort wall.

Standup Paddleboarding or Surfing

Are you ready to jump into the water? A decent beach for learning to surf is located halfway between Unawatuna and Galle. It’s worth noting that the finest surfing season is from November to May.

When is the best time to go to Unawatuna?

The finest months to visit the southwest of Sri Lanka are December to April and July to September.
